Cars

Page 1
Panel 1
Two feet are jutting out from under a car. We can neither see where we are nor say why the man is lying under the car. Maybe something rolled under the vehicle and he tries to recover it.  Might as well be an accident.

Panel 2
Henry is standing next to the car. He's looking at the person on the ground. He's about twenty years old, he got a wristwatch and the fact that this other guy is lying under his car doesn't please him. Not at all.

Henry:
OH NO! PLEASE GOD, NO!

Panel 3
The guy lying on the ground, Carl, is starting to get out from under the car. He isn't injured, at least not as bad as one might expect.

Carl:
DON'T PANIC, HENRY, EVERYTHING'S ALRIGHT.

Panel 4
While Carl is standing up, Henry leans back against the car, looking relieved. We now see that they're standing in front of a garage that belongs to a house somewhere in a residential area.

Henry:
FOR ONE MOMENT I THOUGHT…

Panel 5
Carl is standing next to his friend and lights a cigarette.

Carl:
JUST PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THOSE CATS FROM NOW ON.

Panel 6
Title and Credits.

Panel 1
Henry gives his car a loving pat on the roof.

Henry:
AND I FEARED I WOULD HAVE TO SPEND THE MONEY I SAVED UP FOR THOSE NEW RIMS ON REPAIRS.

Panel 2
Carl offers him a cigarette. He takes one.

Carl:
YOU SHOULD BETTER WASH IT SOON.

Panel 3
Carl is walking around the baby and admires it.

Carl:
HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW MASERATI COUPE GT?

Panel 4
Henry nods and smokes his cigarette. Of course he has seen it.

Henry:
YES, OF COURSE!

Panel 5
Carl's hands sketch the outline of the car into the air.

Carl:
THAT'S A CAR, DUDE, A CAR THAT'S REALLY…

Panel 6
The right words seem to escape him, so he just freezes in his gesture and starts to think.

Panel 7
Now that he finally knows how to end his sentence, he focuses on his friends and lets his hands drop.

Carl:
...A CAR!

Page 3
Panel 1
Henry is still nodding.

Henry:
YOUR RIGHT, DAMNED RIGHT! THAT REALLY IS A CAR TO DIE FOR.

Panel 2
He looks at his wristwatch.

Henry:
HEY, IF WE HURRY WE MIGHT STILL MAKE IT TO THE SHOP BEFORE IT CLOSES.

Panel 3
They 're crossing the street without paying attention to the traffic. Since this panel is focused on them the reader doesn't know whether they should've done so or not.

Carl:
I NEED TO GET THE LATEST ISSUE THIS MAGAZINE.

Panel 4
They're in the middle of the street. They still haven't turned their heads, but as we are looking at Carl sideways, we can see the car, a Mercedes SL 320, that is heading towards them.

Carl:
THIS TIME, THEY TESTED THE NEW CHRYSLER…

Panel 5
Now Henry has seen the car and steps back immediately. Carl hasn't noticed anything.

Henry:
LOOK OUT!

Panel 6
With his eyes closed Henry stands on the street, waiting for the unavoidable impact. We can neither see the car nor Henry in this picture.

SFX:
SCCRRREEEEEEECCH!

Page 4
Panel 1
Somehow the car missed Henry, and so he's able to opens his eyes.

Henry:
CARL?

Panel 2
The car missed him, but it was really close. The rear end of it is just a few centimeters away from him. Obviously Carl didn't have that much luck. His feet jut out from under the car. The driver, about the same age as our two main characters, has left his car and is looking at Carl's feet, too. He's as shocked as Henry.

Henry:
CARL!

Driver:
OH GOD!

Panel 3
Their expressions change from shocked to really surprised.

Carl:
WOW! A MERCEDES SL 320!

Panel 4
They're helping him to get up, but this is nothing more than a gesture. Carl isn't injured.

Driver:
FOR ONE SECOND I THOUGHT…

Carl:
DON'T GET ME WRONG, THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR, BUT IT IS NO CAR TO DIE FOR.

Panel 5
And the two friends walk away as if nothing happened. The drives watches them rather puzzled.

Henry:
THAT IS NO CAR TO DIE FOR? ARE YOU CRAZY?

Carl:
NO.

Henry:
JUST COMPARE IT TO YOUR CAR. DRIVING YOUR CAR FEELS LIKE HUMPING A...

Carl:
STOP IT!

Henry:
...LIKE HUMPING A...
